SKYLINE team members performed engineering inspections and assessments for the Brook Run School compound, located in DeKalb County, Georgia. The project area was part of a “go green” master planning effort for the county parks and recreation department.
The purpose of this project was to identify, quantify, and plan for the protection of useful construction materials during the demolition of the school compound. SKYLINE team members were responsible for a property condition assessment, identifying building material types and quantities, identifying salvage and scrap materials, identifying hazardous and asbestos-containing building materials, utility identification and location, providing reports, drawings, and bidding assistance for the 102-acre project area.
Challenges of this project included finding and organizing dated building and property information for report purposes, hazardous field conditions during investigation, asbestos and lead abatement, revising the project plan to include unknown underground storage tanks (UST), and developing a plan to protect the salvage materials during demolition. SKYLINE team members successfully overcame these challenges using diligent processes and procedures and experience. We worked closely with the municipality to coordinate utilities, erosion control requirements, and site access while securing the site.
Upon the start of demolition, SKYLINE performed construction administration for the CLIENT to monitor the plan of execution and mitigate schedule delays by reacting to project unknowns.
